A Physical & Intellectual Museum

Rooted in the inland savannas of Ghana — the heartlands where slave raids originated and resistance was forged — MHR will be a landmark institution for West Africa and the global diaspora.

The architecture draws from the dɛyaanga (fortified family compounds), honouring the communities whose resilience it commemorates while embracing contemporary museum design.

  • Permanent exhibitions on resistance and survival
  • Oral history archive and digital repository
  • Research centre and scholars' residency
  • Community gathering and healing spaces
  • Educational programming for youth
  • Diaspora reconnection programs
